What is HEMA?

Hydroxy Ethyl Methacrylate Agent (HEMA) has become one of the most talked about ingredients in a very long time. Hema is primarily used for adhesion and dilution in nail products. Normally found in monomer but is also used in gel in smaller quantities. Some products contain more HEMA than others and its these products that are causing problems. The majority of your clients will usually be fine wearing products that contain the standardised amount of HEMA however those clients that have previously had flare ups due to too much HEMA being present in certain products will now more than likely not want to wear products containing HEMA due to the risk of another reaction.
